Chivalry 2: The Regicide and Duel of the Fêtes Updates Bring Fresh Blood to the Battlefield

Since its release, Chivalry 2 has captivated players with its brutal medieval combat and large-scale multiplayer battles. With an average player count hovering around 2,580, the game continues to thrive thanks to its engaging gameplay and consistent updates. Recently, Torn Banner Studios has rolled out two major updates - the Regicide Update and the Duel of the Fêtes Update - each adding new content, features, and quality of life improvements that reinvigorate the player base and deepen the game’s medieval warfare experience.

The Regicide Update: A Battle for the Throne

The Regicide Update transports players to the heart of Vantear, where the Agathians make a desperate final push to capture the Trayan Citadel from the Mason Order. This update introduces the epic new Team Objective map, Regicide at Trayan Citadel, alongside a new Campaign Pass, a fresh character bundle, a powerful new weapon, and several combat and quality of life improvements.

At the center of this update is the new map, Regicide at Trayan Citadel. Players experience an intense siege scenario where the Agathians must escort their battle ram, “The Lion’s Thrust,” through multiple stages of the citadel’s defenses. The journey begins by retaking an outer encampment from the Masons and regaining frontline strength. Once the walls are breached, the Agathian forces must fight their way through the citadel itself, which features a dramatic volcanic environment adding to the chaos and spectacle of the battle.

The climax of the map is a dramatic showdown between two kings: Malric Terrowin, the Mason’s ruthless leader, and Argon II, the valiant Agathian knight commander. Players must fight to defend or dethrone their king in this ultimate test of skill and teamwork. This dynamic final battle adds a narrative weight and high stakes that few multiplayer maps can match.

Complementing the new map is the introduction of the Goedendag, a brutal and versatile polearm weapon available to the Poleman and Engineer subclasses. The Goedendag is the shortest polearm in the game but compensates with high damage output and a unique mix of blunt and piercing attacks. Its slashes and overheads deal blunt damage, while its stabs inflict piercing damage, making it effective against a variety of armor types. This weapon encourages players to adapt their attack style based on the enemy they face, adding a new layer of tactical depth to combat.

Alongside these major additions, the Regicide Update also brings a new Campaign Pass titled “Regicide,” offering fresh rewards and progression opportunities. The “Agatha Rebel Knight” character bundle adds new customization options for players looking to stand out on the battlefield. Moreover, various quality of life improvements and combat tweaks help refine gameplay, ensuring that battles remain fast-paced and balanced.

The Duel of the Fêtes Update: Expanding Player Freedom and Competitive Play

Shortly before the Regicide Update, Torn Banner Studios released the Duel of the Fêtes Update (2.10), which focused heavily on player customization, competitive balance, and community-driven gameplay. This update introduced several new maps, a new campaign pass, and a groundbreaking feature: Unofficial Server Support.

Unofficial Server Support is a game-changer for the Chivalry 2 community. Powered by Nitrado, players can now rent and fully customize their own servers directly from within the game. This feature enables community leaders and clans to host tailored matches with custom rulesets, such as specific class limits, votekick parameters, match lengths, and player counts up to 64. Server admins can also toggle horse availability, restrict camera perspectives, disable combat zones, and manage player access with password protection.

With this level of control, players can organize unique events, practice specific game modes, or simply enjoy casual brawls with friends. The introduction of Unofficial Servers also means that the previously standalone duel servers will transition into social hubs, with the developers stepping back from active moderation of random deathmatch incidents, trusting the community to self-regulate.

In addition to server customization, the update introduced Skill-Based Team Balance, aiming to create fairer and more competitive matches by matching players of similar skill levels. This system helps reduce frustration and improve the overall gameplay experience, especially in team objective modes.

The update also added Region Selection Options, allowing players to choose their preferred server regions, reducing latency issues and improving match quality worldwide. This is a welcome addition for the global Chivalry 2 player base.

New maps further enrich the game’s variety. The Team Deathmatch map Frozen Wreck and three Free-For-All maps - Frozen Wreck, Bazaar, and Duel Yard - offer fresh battlegrounds for both casual and competitive play. These maps feature diverse environments and layouts that test player adaptability and skill across different modes.

The “Fête-for-All” Campaign Pass complements these additions with new rewards and progression paths, encouraging players to dive into the new content and earn exclusive cosmetics.

Looking Ahead: A Thriving Medieval Battlefield

With these two substantial updates, Chivalry 2 continues to grow and evolve, offering players more reasons to return to its chaotic medieval combat. The Regicide Update’s narrative-driven siege and kingly showdown bring epic storytelling to multiplayer battles, while the Duel of the Fêtes Update empowers the community with tools for customization and competitive balance.

At an average concurrent player count of 2,580, the game maintains a vibrant and dedicated community. The addition of Unofficial Servers, new maps, weapons, and gameplay improvements ensures that both newcomers and veterans have fresh content and challenges to enjoy.

For fans of visceral melee combat and large-scale multiplayer warfare, Chivalry 2’s latest updates reaffirm its position as one of the premier medieval combat games on the market. Whether you’re storming the gates of Trayan Citadel or hosting your own custom server event, the battlefield awaits - and legends will be born once more.
